One of the main features of the Selbie reed is our patent pending tongue system. The T shape formed tongued fits into the precision engineered reed body. This eliminates the need to glue tongues to the body. It allows the tongue to be removed and cleaned of any residue or seasoning if a reed were to fall ino the pipe bag. It can then be refitted to the reed body and set to its original position.
Our reeds have been developed to fit most makes of pipes. Black waxed hemp can be added to the rubber sleeve to ensure a secure fit.
Prior to despatch, the reeds have been tested for pitch and strength, and are delivered with instructions on how to fine tune the reed to obtain the perfect balance between chanter and drones.

Great tonal quality
I love these drone reeds, I tried other reeds and had great success with them, but for some reason the harmonics of these with the chanter is the best sound I have found yet!! I have aslo bought the tongues replacements because I like them that much and expecte to have these for a long time!!

Overall good, stable reeds
I like them in my poly McCallums, very easy strike-ins. The tenors are very loud however the bass is a lot softer than I like compared to the tenors.

Plug and play
I was very hesitant, to order these because I don’t know anyone who plays these. But I thought take a chance, it’s your stimulus money, so glad I did all I had to do was hemp these up and the played straight out of the box, I’ll recommend these any day!

Q:
I have some polypenco pipes and they get really wet inside when played. I need some reeds that don't accumulate condensation as quickly as others (e.g. Kinnaird Evolution reeds get really sweaty on the synthetic reed tongue). Are these Selbie's more absorbent of moisture like some wood composite, or can you recommend other drone reeds with this property?

The Selbies will work well as will the Canning’s with either the carbon fiber or plastic bass tongue…not the Canning blue. Also, Ezeedrone increased absorption will also do the trick!
