The basic concept of the breathable canister bag system, is that the air must pass through the canister filled with drying granules prior to reaching the reeds. This canister system, combined with the breathable bag, offers pipers the best available means of controlling moisture, which means much greater stability of tone and longevity of reeds.

This Ross bag is great!

I ordered this as a replacement for an older version of the Ross bag, which had served me well for over a decade, but which finally failed next to the zipper, which was located on the bottom of the bag. This new version, which wisely relocated the zipper to the side of the bag, was very easy to "tie" in and is a pleasure to play. The Ross moisture control system has worked very well for me in hundreds of hours playing in everything from blistering dry heat in New Mexico to Scotland's cold, soggy weather. I'm definitely a fan of the entire Ross system.

Q: What is your recommendation regarding bag size? I am a 6’2” man and previously played with a medium bag. I haven’t played in years but want to get started again. Thanks. (old bag has a tear at the zipper attach point)

A: I would recommend a Large bag for a person of your height!

A: The E.S. stands for Extended small!!

Q: I have not played my bagpipes in 15 years, I am looking for a synthetic pipe bag to replace my heavy leather bag. I am looking at the Ross Red Bag with moisture control. Does this bag need to be tied in like the leather one I have ? does the moisture canister system impair the ease of use? seems like I would feel it inside the bag???? Also I am 5-10 medium build, 65 years old. thinking about a size Small Extended bag, any thoughts about the size? thank you ,

A: This bag uses hose clamps for the chanter stock. The other stocks are a friction fit and they include a roll of elastic tape to secure these stocks. At your height, I would suggest either the extended small or medium bag, by this maker for you. You can feel the moisture control system in the bag, if the canister is not vertical.
