What are lengths of "standard" vs "long" practice chanters. And why? Are thy in different keys, do they sound different???

A:
The difference between the McCallum Pc2 (standard length) and the PC4 (long length) is all in the bottom section. The Pc2 is 9.75 inches and the Pc4 is 13 inches. The vast majority of the length difference is below the Low G hole of the Pc4. They are in the same key (the PC4 has sound holes at 9.75 inches). Some instructor prefer the longer version as it appears to be more like the bagpipe chanter in appearance. I recommend a standard length for shorter people and the longer chanter for taller. To me, this has everything to do with posture while practicing at the table.

As a fairly tall woman (5’8”), I followed the guidance here and bought the long chanter. After over an hour of trying to cover the holes properly on the lower portion, I have come to the conclusion that my fingers are just a bit too narrow, and my pinkie just cannot stretch far enough for this to work. I can force my right hand into position long enough to play a few notes, but once I lift a finger it is not possible to place it back down on the hole. There should be a more precise method to determine which size to buy. Is it possible to exchange the lower half or whole chanter?
