This is a great book for the beginning snare drummer. I am a piper who wants to know more about basic snare drumming so I could fill in in a pinch and so I could teach it one day if needed but I was always confused by the notation. This book breaks down the notation in expanded form and notes it with the triplet feel that is found in Scottish drumming. It was very straight forward and easy to follow if you have a rudimentary understanding of drum/rhythmic notation. It also comes with a play along CD that plays the scores at different tempos that is helpful. I thought the book was expensive for what you get, there are only 20 pages to the whole book and the scores are basic massed band type scores that contain 2/4,3/4,4/4 and 6/8 time signatures. But there is not much on this subject out there and the price seemed to be constant no matter where I looked so I put out the $4o. I am happy with the purchase just wished it was cheaper. I am giving it four stars because of the length.
