The new Kintyre Practice Chanter, designed by Willie McCallum, is a long Blackwood practice chanter with a plastic top. The finger spacing for the Kintyre practice chanter is an exact match to the hole size and spacing for the McCallum MC2 pipe chanter. Nearly all other practice chanters have a straight bore while the Kintyre practice chanters have a conical bore eliminating the need for the different size and spacing on other practice chanters.
The Kintyre practice chanter is a bit longer, lowering the pitch a bit and allowing for the size and spacing of the holes. It is deep and rich in tone and comes with an internal water trap that might need to be repositioned (or easily removed) to accept wider practice chanter reeds.
Willie McCallum himself describes it as "the only long practice chanter I have played that feels like a pipe chanter," making the transition to a pipe chanter much easier. Modeled on the McCallum Solo Chanter.
