Questions and Answers
G1 PLATINUM produces more resonance and clarity, particularly on the top hand. G1 PLATINUM also has a sharper high A which suits an even wider range of chanters, such as the Sinclair and Naill. It locks in perfectly with your drones producing a lovely balance and TRUE SOUND. G1 PLATINUM sets new standards in reed making!

G1 and Kyo Chanter
I emailed Jon on the item and asked if he could select 3 reeds close to the strength and chanter fit I play. The reeds came in sooner than expected and it was almost like a plug and play item. All three reeds were crisp and at almost the same strength. Jon is the Bomb and so is ThePipersHut. They are my only go to site when I need anything for my pipes. They have very helpful with all aspects of my needs. I compete and play two different chanters so I need different reeds for each chanter. It is so nice to be able to add a comment to my order and get what I need.

G1 Platinum Magic
Our band has tried many different makers' reeds over the 40 years in which I've been involved. Currently, we have McCallum Mk2 chanters, and once we tried the G1 Platinums, provided through the first-rate Piper's Hut, we searched no further. They not only tuned the best, but they hold up remarkably well. We've had virtually none that were faulty; can be worked well without damage; and, given what chanter reeds cost, these days, our annual expense for them has dropped dramatically. We highly recommend these reeds (and The Piper's Hut). Michael, former P/M of Clan Macleay Pipe Band Portland, Oregon

G1 Platinum reeds
these have been my go to reeds for some time now. They are almost plug and play, requiring very little blow in time. They provide a nice crisp sound and are very easy to tune. I've recommended these reeds to several of my band mates and they've had the same result. Also-the Pipers Hut is excellent!

Doodee
I Bought this reed to replace a plastic reed that blew in im medieval german bagpipes in The scale G/a...I ordered the "easy" At first it was far to hard to even sound with out turning my drone off, or on the bag at all..only would sound mouth blown..So I spent about 15 minutes sanding and testing...I have found the perfect spot and it sounds and plays better than before..I will add a little hemp to help the reed set stationary and im sure it will improve further.. I will order the super easy next time and im sure it will be sounding in less time!

Q:
The platinum G1 reed presents strengths of "very easy" "easy" "easy medium" and "medium" -- no strong. The MacPhee reed offers "easy" "medium" "strong" -- Can you give me an idea of how those categories compare? Is the MacPhee "medium" equivalent in strength to the G1 "medium"? Are there pressure ratings to these terms? Which of the terms, for which reed, would blow about 32? What's "easy"? 28 - 30? What's medium? 32 - 34? or 34/35? Thanks.

A:
There is no industry standard for reed strengths based on very easy through strong. Each reed makers strengths are a bit different. If you are looking for a specific strength just mention it in the comments section during check out and we will do our best to pick a reed for you to your specs.

I'm using a Naill chanter from the 1980s with a set of McDougall's. Is this reed a good fit?

Q:
Hello, I was wondering if you have any idea what the actual strength (h2o) of the reeds are? I have read that the G1 Platinum's are stiffer than most and an easy G1 is about the same as a medium reed from other makers. I play a Colin Kyo chanter (which I love the hole size and spacing) but am having a hard time finding great reeds to go with it and I have seen some people have success with this reed in that chanter. My normal playing strength is around 25 (h2o). Any information is appreciated. Thank you.

Q:
Will the G1 Platinums, very easy or easy tune to 478? Any guess as to the blowing pressure for the very easy and the easy? Same questions as above for the regular G1 reeds. Thanks, Greg Nicolosi

A:
Well...that is complicated. It can, but it also depends greatly on the chanter that you are using!

Q:
Do you sell a Bb chanter reed which would work with Gibson pipes? What is the process for tuning the drones? I want to play with a trumpet.
Asked by:
Drew Mansager
- 11/7/2019
A:
Yes, the Melvin or Shepherd b flat chanter reeds will work for you. Regarding the drones, you may need to add drone extenders to lower the pitch of the drones to achieve concert b flat.
