Q: What makes are these reeds? What three brands are provided?

A: You can select what ever reed bands you desire in the comments section on the product order page. If nothing is mentioned here we generally send an Abedour, Abbott, and Elliot chanter reed.

Q: I began with Shawn Husk's Senior/Beginner reed and have moved to his Easy reed, but the lead time on getting reeds from Shawn has gotten long--a vision problem has slowed down his production, sorry to say. I'd like to try a couple other/different Very Easy to Easy reeds to see what other reed might work well for me. I have a McCallum chanter I only want ridge-cut reeds (I've tried the Shepherd molded Easy reed and was not pleased with it). If I order your Easy Bagpipe Chanter Reed Variety Pack, (1) can I request specific reeds to try, or (2) if not, can you tell me which three reeds you would send? Thanks, Mark Wilsdorf Madison, MO

A: Yes, you have the opportunity to select any reed that you like. There is a comments section on the Easy reed variety pack product page that will give you the opportunity to make this selection!

Q: What is with the elasyic band?

A: The elastic band helps to break in the chanter reed more quickly, and can also add support to a chanter reed that has an overly flat or collapsing F

Q: Is the tonal quality of these reeds equal to the shephard's cut reeds or better? Are these reeds easier to sound than shephard's cut reeds and do they require a high pressure to be maintained to prevent them from shutting off? My shephard's cut keeps shutting off for me.

A: Reed strengths and tonal quality very from reed maker to reed maker and change from chanter make to chanter make. In general, I would say that they would be about the same strength as the Shepherd Ridge cut reed, perhaps the Abedour would be easier in strength.

Q: Hello: I assume these are good for a practice chanter? I am an older beginner, and the reed in mine is old, and seems to be extremely hard to blow, to the point if discomfort. Thank you.

A: These reeds are for the Bagpipe chanter, not the Practice chanter.
