Questions and Answers
Has the same bottom section as our regular practice chanter so when your child outgrows this, simply purchase a regular practice chanter top and the chanter now becomes a regular length practice chanter.

Good but could be better
The Gibson 3/4 chanter fits all the right dimensions. It has a short top and short bottom. My 2 year old was able to easily [pretend] play on the chanter. But longer term, there are a few issues which make this not suitable for most toddlers. Biggest reason: most toddlers have a habit of swinging anything in their hand; everything turns into a drum/walking stick. That doesn't seem like much of an issue, but the Gibson reed seat is not threaded. Since the reed seat is not threaded, the Gibson 3/4 chanter won't last more than 5 minutes before you have to reset the reed. Seems like an easy fix to have a threaded reed seat but that's not the case here. Second, most children are not in control of their saliva like most adult pipers, and the Gibson top turns into an aquarium. Ideally, the top would have a built in moisture trap, something like the RG Hardie Twist Trap chanters. But the Twist Trap has a long chanter top, making it not condusive for most toddlers to easily pretend play chanter. If you do have a Twist Trap that you aren't playing, you could easily saw off three inches from the chanter top. To me that is the ideal toddler chanter, short top with a moisture trap. The Twist Trap is similarly indestructible, in my experience with a toddler. Skip the GIbson 3/4 and go for the Hardie Twist Trap (it also has a threaded reed seat). You won't regret it.

Q:
Just one more question about this one, since my student is concerned. I know this has the same fingering position as the regular chanter, but does it have the same spacing as the pipe chanter?
