Ross Watson, the owner, was an employee of Shepherd Bagpipes for some 28 years, recruited by Bob Shepherd himself when Watson was learning the carpenter/joiner trade. At 17 years old, the great Shepherd approached him to apply his skills to bagpipe making with R.T. Shepherd & Son.

This reed is a popular choice for players of all levels and abilities. It is easy to set up, responsive and vibrant, offering a ‘plug and play’ type feel. Used by bands and dedicated soloists who are looking for vibration and warmth. This reed will go well in most pipe chanters on the current market.

Best reeds I've used
I love these reeds. My tutor got me playing these again after I had tried G1 Platinum Chesney reeds. I prefer the moulded to the ridge-cut. My tutor will manipulate a medium reed after 6-8 weeks of "seasoning" it by breaking it in before making any significant modifications. My 2 solo reeds have lasted me a year and taken me from Grade V/IV to Grade III. I find the easy reeds are great to play but just might not last quite as long as a harder one "seasoned" by blowing it in and then having an expert shave or sand it a wee bit strategically. There are a LOT of great Pipe Chanter reeds out there, but so far these Shepherd moulded reeds have served me best in the solo and band environments. Bright, durable, dependable.

Doodee Pipes
This actually has become my favorite reed for the medieval bagpipes over the g1 reed. It played all day perfect in cold wet weather...It is easily manipulated to strength you need with out effecting the tone or pitch...and responded much nicer in my chanter...I have to shave the easy probably to a little under half its normal thickness...but I was impressed by this reed.

Q:
Can you please make sure these reeds are usable for a beginning piper? I have not played in a while and my last reed is now shot... Fired up the pipes again.. Thanks, Dave Campbell
