Home School Options

One of the benefits of homeschooling is the freedom to try new things.

Learning the bagpipe is an opportunity for just that.

Plus, a great way to incorporate music, culture, history, even family heritage, into your curriculum.

about bagpipe study in general

step 1

Begin on a practice chanter.

Learn basic playing skills.

Not just notes but techniques and embellishments unique to the bagpipe. Usually 3 months to a year depending on student progress and prior music knowledge.

step 2

Transition to the actual bagpipe.

Learn not only how to play but also how to set-up, tune and care for your instrument.

This important skill-set greatly impacts overall sound.

step 3

Find your place in the bagpipe world.

Players from around the globe engage in novice to high-level competition. Others perform professionally. Still more use their talent to express their patriotism or honor those in service. Some play simply for personal pleasure

Whether you take up the bagpipes or not,

If you're new to bagpiping or just love all things Celtic, it's a great day of piping, dancing and athletic competitions combined with live entertainment, good food, lots of shopping, live animal demonstrations and more. We came across this great YouTube video put out by George Scott, "What Are Highland Games". He manages to capture many features of the 2012 event at Maryville College in Tennessee. While all highland games are different, it provides a great feel for what to expect. Enjoy.
